I’m starting to get into Maya a lot more. Here are some personal projects I’ve been working on.

This is a simple plant prop I used to learn a bit of modeling, uv mapping and texturing along with some rigging. I mainly wanted to learn how to rig some dynamic joint chains. I also used it to learn Maya’s rendering layers and how to composite them in after effects.

I wanted to learn how to animate better in Maya, so why not try an exercise Animation Mentor style. The ball bounce, some squash and stretch. Learning how to play around with splines more in the graph editor. Its still a work in progress...

Ok so here is my first CG character. (I’ll post the drawings of the character when I finish unpacking and find them) Modeling was done using basic box polygon modeling technique. The mesh turned out kind of sloppy. I guess next time I’ll try using subdivisions or nurbs. The rigging went a lot smoother than the modeling. Here are some of the features that went into the rig.

-Stretchy Ik arms and legs.
-IK FK switches
-Stretchy Ik spine with Fk controls.
-Real-time dynamics on his belly and coat tail
-Dynamics to FK switches on belly and coat tail
-Adjustable dynamics (Jigglyness of belly haha)
-Pose space deformation on the jaw to keep volume as it’s opened.
-Soft eyes setup. The skin around the eyes move slightly with the rotation of the eye. done with blendshapes and MEL expressions.

So here are some expressions I came up with testing out the rig and blend shapes.

Some animation! Here is a quick walk cycle to test out the rig, and a little after effects.

LIP SYNC! This was my first cg lip sync. Had a lot of fun finally seeing my character come to life.

First Year is Done

Well...first year is done! I think I’ve improved a lot over the past school year, and definitely learned a lot.

Here is one of my layouts I think turned out very well, master copy of a layout from Disney’s Home on the Range and a TV and chair layout( has been done a million times over....but I thought I would try it out anyway) . A Kitchen concept painting, and a digital painting I never had the chance to finish.. the schools computer fried my wacom tablet when I plugged it in!!! it smoked and melted it!

Pink panther walk cycle was used to introduce us to Toonboom software and After Effects. We had to Color a background in photoshop and Pan in AE.

First...ive been missing lifedrawing so I thought i'd break out some newsprint and nuepastels, and I ended up sketching this monster out...had some fun playing with colors. The two shacks... I havn't been on the grind as much as I would like latley, i've been working alot of hours and enjoyin the summer, but I always have time for this stuff!. Some sketches from TV and a little finnner art

I've come across alot of juicebox animations on the webnet, so I thought it would be a good beginners project to tryout. I modeled the juicebox with 2 bones in the body, 2 in the straw just simple FK. So here is a short scene and a juicebox walkcylce. I also downloaded the Generi model all rigged and tried animating a walkcylce, trying out some different hand movments.
